Ifthepasswordmodeistobechosen,thepasswordmustbeprogrammedpriortosettingthecorresponding

lockregisterbit.SettingthePasswordProtectionModeLockBitisprogrammed,apowercycle,hardware

reset,orPPBLockBitSetcommandisrequiredtosetthePPBLockbitto0toprotectthePPBarray.

The programming time of the Lock Register is the same as the typical word programming time. During a

LockRegisterprogrammingEA,DatapollingStatusDQ6ToggleBitIwilltoggleuntiltheprogramminghas

completed.ThesystemcanalsodeterminethestatusofthelockregisterprogrammingbyreadingtheStatus

TheuserisnotrequiredtoprogramDQ2orDQ1,andDQ6orDQ0bitsatthesametime.Thisallowstheuser

tolocktheSSRbeforeorafterchoosingthedeviceprotectionscheme.WhenprogrammingtheLockBits,the

ReservedBitsmustbe1(masked).

Persistent Protection Mode

ThePersistentProtectionmethodsetsthePPBLockto1duringPORorHardwareResetsothatthePPBbits

areunprotectedbyadevicereset.ThereisacommandtoclearthePPBLockbitto0toprotectthePPB.There

isnocommandinthePersistentProtectionmethodtosetthePPBLockbitto1thereforethePPBLockbitwill

remainat0untilthenextpower-offorhardwarereset.

PPB Password Protection Mode

PPBPasswordProtectionModeallowsanevenhigherlevelofsecuritythanthePersistentSectorProtection

Mode,byrequiringa64-bitpasswordforsettingthePPBLock.Inadditiontothispasswordrequirement,after

powerupandreset,thePPBLockisclearedto0toensureprotectionatpower-up.Successfulexecutionof

thePasswordUnlockcommandbyenteringtheentirepasswordsetsthePPBLockto1,allowingforsector

PPBmodifications.

PasswordProtectionNotes:

• ThePasswordProgramCommandisonlycapableofprogramming0’s.

• Thepasswordisall1’swhenshippedfromtheOEM.Itislocatedinitsownmemoryspaceandis

accessiblethroughtheuseofthePasswordProgramandPasswordReadcommands.

• All64-bitpasswordcombinationsarevalidasapassword.

• OncethePasswordisprogrammedandverified,thePasswordModeLockingBitmustbesetinorder

topreventreadingormodificationofthepassword.

• ThePasswordModeLockBit,onceprogrammed,preventsreadingthe64-bitpasswordonthedata

busandfurtherpasswordprogramming.Allfurtherprogramandreadcommandstothepasswordregion

aredisabled(dataisreadas1’s)andthesecommandsareignored.Thereisnomeanstoverifywhatthe
