1. Introduction

The IT3 series is a high-speed mezzanine connector that is proven to work up to 20+ Gbps in a

telecom environment. Its innovative three-piece design allows customers to easily adjust the stack

height from 15 mm to 40 mm without changing the footprint or layout in their printed circuit boards.

In the following sections, we will describe the IT3 geometry and the signal integrity analysis

results for the 32mm stack height. The signal integrity results include the S parameters, TDR and

TDT waveforms, and eye diagrams.

The IT3-32mm connector complies with the IEEE 802.3ap spec for return loss (RL) and

insertion loss to cross-talk ratio (ICR) to 15 GHz, and introduces small timing jitter end eye height

attenuation.

2. Geometry

Figure 1 and Figure 2 show the geometry and structure of the IT3 connector: two identical

sockets are connected to each other by an interposer. The total stack height is flexible. For example,

the following customer-specific heights have been made available: 17, 25, 26, 28, 32, 38 and 40 mm.
