Shunt Regulator – HT45F39 only
TheHT45F39deviceincludesafullyintegratedshuntregulator.Theshuntregulatorisacommon
andsimpletypeofregulatorwhoseoutputisusedasthedevicepowersupply.Theshuntregulatoris
constructedofapowertransistorandavoltagefeedbackcircuit.Thepowertransistor,whoseoutput
currentiscontrolledbyavoltagefeedbackcircuit,isusedtoshunttheextracurrenttomaintaina
constantregulatedvoltageonVDD.Thispowertransistorprovidesacurrentpathfromthedevice
supplyvoltagetoground.Anexternalresistor,RSER,shouldbeproperlyselectedtoseriallyconnect
VDDtotheexternalpowersupply.Theshuntregulatormaynothavetheexpectedperformanceif
theRSERresistanceistoosmallortoolarge.AcapacitorisexternallyconnectedbetweenVDDand
VSSpinstostabilisetheregulatedvoltage.Notethatexcessivepowerdissipationinformofheat
duetotheshuntcurrentthroughthepowertransistorshouldbetakenintoconsiderationintheuser
applications.

Interrupts
Interruptsareanimportantpartofanymicrocontrollersystem.Whenanexternaleventoran
internalfunctionsuchasaTimerModuleoranA/Dconverterrequiresmicrocontrollerattention,
theircorrespondinginterruptwillenforceatemporarysuspensionofthemainprogramallowing
themicrocontrollertodirectattentiontotheirrespectiveneeds.Thedevicescontainoneexternal
interruptandseveralinternalinterruptsfunctions.Theexternalinterruptisgeneratedbytheactionof
theexternalINTpin,whiletheinternalinterruptsaregeneratedbyvariousinternalfunctionssuchas
theTMs,Auto-EnvelopeComparator,andtheA/Dconverter.
Interrupt Registers
Overallinterruptcontrol,whichbasicallymeansthesettingofrequestflagswhencertain
microcontrollerconditionsoccurandthesettingofinterruptenablebitsbytheapplicationprogram,
iscontrolledbyaseriesofregisters,locatedintheSpecialPurposeDataMemory,asshowninthe
accompanyingtable.TheINTC0~INTC2registerssetuptheprimaryinterruptswhiletheINTEG
registersetuptheexternalinterrupttriggeredgetype.
