GENERAL OPERATING

INSTRUCTIONS

Wiring and instrument navigation are followed by instructions

specific to the temperature control portion of the LDTC LAB,

and instructions discussing the laser driver functionality of the

LDTC LAB.

Temperature controller (TC) instructions begin on

page 17.

Laser driver (LD) instructions begin on

page 20.

CONNECT THE POWER

On the back panel, insert the female end of the IEC AC power

cable into the Power receptacle and then plug the male end

into the AC power source.

NOTE: Place the LDTC LAB instrument at least 6” away

from any wall to provide adequate ventilation and prevent

overheating.

WIRE TEST LOADS

TEMPERATURE CONTROL TEST LOAD

We recommend using a test load and simulated thermistor

when first configuring the LDTC LAB instrument. The

thermistor test load simulates a 10 kΩ thermistor operating at

25ºC, feeding a constant 10 kΩ to the control system.

Wire a 15+2 D-SUB plug to a test load and insert it into the

TE Out and Sensors D-SUB port located on the back panel.

Setting up this test load allows current to be driven to either

the positive or negative limit. Choose units of Sensor Raw,

configure the sensor as a 10 kΩ thermistor with 100 µA bias

current, and change the setpoint above or below the 10 kΩ

value. This confirms proper operation and direction of the

current flow.

LASER DIODE CONTROL TEST LOAD

We recommend using a test load when first configuring the

LDTC LAB instrument. The test load shown in

Figure 12

simulates a laser load.

NOTE: Type A and B lasers use the top DB15 (female)

connector, while Type C lasers use the bottom DB15 (male)

connector.

After practicing with a test load to gain comfort and proficiency

with the operation of the instrument, wire the sensor,

thermoelectric or resistive heater, and laser diode.
